You may have noticed I publish my paintings in a broad array of magazines, books, newspapers (They really still make those.), online blogs and e-zines. I also allow them to be printed in limited editions and on merchandise. Some people have asked me why I do this. It would be great if I could say that it is to accrue a vast fortune. Thus far it is not that at all; it is because many people who admire my work and would like to own one of the images I painted do not have the resources to buy or commission a painting. So this is my way of allowing people to have access to my images. After all when I was a child I stated that my goal was, “It is okay if no one buys my work as long as everyone in the world has seen at least one of my artworks.
As to the effect of publishing on the value of the originals it is all positive. The Van Gogh you see selling for tens millions of dollars is in part so valuable because of having been reproduced as posters, postcards towels, drapes on coffee cups and anything else you can imagine and the effect that had on its fame and the public’s desire to see the original.
This is true of even limited edition prints. One reason the limited edition prints by greats such as Picasso, Miro and Rembrandt sell for so much is the fame they achieved by being reproduced in unlimited edition posters, post cards etc. having been widely distributed.
You will often see my work published in books, magazines and online blogs. Again this adds to the popularity of the artworks and allows those on a limited budget to see my work. As does this website. By looking at the images on this site you bring me one step closer to my goal of everyone having seen my artwork. Thank you.
